Today 10th September 2012 is the last day of the biometric voters verification. I was at my polling station, the SOS College community 6 Station. I got there at pass 2pm and there was just two registered voters checking their details. It took the polling agent flipping pages back and forth just to verify if our names were in the register.
I did find my name but apparently the sex on my card was female and I never noticed it. The polling agent was nice, he ask if i wanted to change my sex from female to male. You know what, if it was some few years ago I would have left it that way, don't ask me why? (it a Ghanaian thing we don't take things seriously) but I really don't like being challenged by those young ladies that are at the various identity authentication places.
It gets better, it turns out that somebody in his rightful mind decided that, names or voters ID should not be in order of alphabetical or arithmetical respectfully for easy look up. The whole thing makes me think the old way was much efficient, it like they hired an armature to handle their electronic data.
I had been there four days earlier and was told they only had part of the list and adviced to send an SMS with my voters ID to a 1413 to get confirmation, as if they were paying for the SMS. Do they know how much 30Gp multiplied by estimated 15,000,000 people plus or minus will cost ? We all know there are some who will like to send that SMS twice or more just to show off to friends how their names happen to be in the register, hey! this is Ghana we swag about everything.lol Anyway, they should account for the SMS.
Why didn't the EC do this voters verification three ways. first, put this whole data online for people to check with their voters ID. Second, SMS to check and finally go to your polling station if you can't do the first two, this will have been much more easier for all of us.
What is the point of having technology and not use it, if you don't know just ask, I am very sure you might get help for free. Instead of telling me I am a female whilst I have being a male all my life, maybe they know something I don't.
When the EC says am Female who am I to argue
